What We Need

Donations

Your support helps to ensure that blind and visually impaired people in the Lowcountry and beyond will continue to benefit from our vital programs.  Last year, donor funding allowed the ReFocus and ReFocus on Children programs to come to fruition. These two programs allowed the Association to serve over 1,000 medical indigent children and adults with eyecare and eyewear. We can only imagine what the future holds.

If you are interested in sponsoring our programs, here are the costs:

ReFocus mobile outreach clinic (serves 27) $2,200
ReFocus on Children (class of 20) $350
Living Well with Partial Vision (in-home care for 1) $1,870

Thank you!

Referrals from Eye-Care Professionals

Ophthalmologists and optometrists are our gateway to being able to help those with visual impairments to live better and remain independent.  Once qualified patients are referred to Living Well with Partial Vision by their Eye Care Professional, we then are able to send our specially trained Occupational Therapists into their homes to help set individual goals and provide training that will provide significant improvements in their daily lives.

Volunteers

We occasionally need volunteers to help with our social events.  Activities can include ushering, driving, providing/handling refreshments, etc.  Please contact us if you are interested.

Also, we encourage anyone looking for a great volunteer opportunity to explore the possibility of becoming a driver for the ITNCharlestonTridentTM independent transportation network.  This organization is providing a crucial service and helping to solve one of the biggest issues facing seniors and visually impaired individuals of all ages.  The AFTB staff daily interacts with ITNCharlestonTridentTM volunteers who are driving people to and from computer classes or doctor appointments, and we know first hand how important this service is.
